Senseless Chatter with Minimal Splatter

So, a new establishment has opened up in the metropolis of Ripley, MS; I thought I would help bolster the town's economy by posting a picture of their newly erected sign online--you know, free advertising.

Is it just me, or is this sign made in a way that inaccurately communicates what these folks are trying to sell? Maybe it's the odd combination of pieces of words together in my mind that's getting me sidetracked.

  • Oh my dear goodness. Is that place ACTUALLY in Ripley? If so, you should go have a talk with the manager. Of course...maybe the sign is really a ploy. Kind of like the shady haircut place behind Pizza Hut in Oxford on University Ave...

  • And when you think about it...Do sign makers ever make suggestions to people? You know, like, "Some customers may read this and be confused. Is this what you were going for?"

I would guess their business is to just stay out of other people's businesses and make signs. Of course, I think I might have some moral and/or societal obligation to help some people.

    "Aww...He thinks he's people."

  • Excellent question about the sign folks. This is a fine example of how capitalism isn't the best possible system for people to live by. It causes money-hungry signmakers to cast aside their sense of decency, just to make a buck. ;) Of course, if the alternative to capitalism is despotism, then that does make it easier to choose.

  • i find it funny that you used the word "erected" in that post. i guess the business isn't the only one with poor choice of words. ha!

  • Hmm, it's interesting how close a "poor" choice of words can be to a "clever" choice of words.
